Gippsland landholders are being encouraged to get involved in the Trees on Farms Incubator Program, which is helping farmers plan, design and fund their own farm forestry and environmental planting projects.
Delivered by SGLN in partnership with Re-Gen Ecosystems and Agriculture Victoria, the program guides participants through a series of practical workshops and agroforestry farm visits. The program aims to educate, inspire and showcase the diverse options for integrating trees into farming systems across Gippsland.
Participants receive professional guidance throughout the program to design their own revegetation and farm forestry projects. They are also supported to complete their own grant applications, which can significantly subsidise the costs of establishing their projects.
The program is led by Project Manager Callam Reynolds, an environmental project developer and Landcare facilitator with 15 years of experience in reforestation, agroforestry and natural capital projects.
Farm tour at ‘Tamaroo’
As part of the program, a free farm tour will be held on Saturday 17 October at ‘Tamaroo’, an agroforestry property just out of Warragul.
Landholder and retired agronomist Bob Gray will show visitors how he has integrated biodiversity-rich gully revegetation and a high-quality hardwood timber plantation into a profitable grazing system. The livestock benefit from the shelter, shade and soil protection the trees provide. Bob and his wife Robyn have planted more than 100,000 trees on the property.
