SUMMARY:Native Plant Propagation with Ian Starkey and Jim Ahon
DESCRIPTION:Ian has a wealth of knowledge about our local Gippsland flora and years of experience growing native plants. Jim has been instrumental in the setting up and running of Korumburra Landcare Nursery. Thankfully they also have a passion for sharing their knowledge and experience with others. \nJoin us in the beautiful Leongatha Community Garden for this hands on workshop to learn how to propagate and grow plants for yourself to benefit our native environment. \nA variety of native seeds and seedlings the workshop will cover \n• Seed storage and pre-treatments. \n• Seed raising mixes \n• Sowing techniques for propagating trays and “direct seeding” into forestry tubes or cells. \n• Correct methods to “Prick Out” seedlings \n• Various mediums for growing plants from cuttings \n• Demonstration and a chance practice to process vegetative propagation using plant cuttings. \n• After care for cuttings/seedings \nYou will get to take home a tray of sewn seeds\, processed seedlings and cuttings \nEquipment is provided\, please BYO gloves. \nPlease Register: https://events.humanitix.com/native-plant-propagation-workshop-qhu2enwx \nMorning tea is provided. Please BYP lunch to enjoy in the community garden at the end of the event if you wish. \nThis seminar is part of a larger Fire Wise Project\, which also included installing two demonstration sites at Meeniyan and Loch. The sites include a garden and a shelter belt demonstration\, to help create awareness and spread knowledge in the community about fire wise planting\, and provide ideas to guide others in fire wise planting for their own properties. \nThe Fire Wise Project is funded by the Australian Governments Preparing Australian Communities program in partnership with the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife (FNPW). FNPW is an environmental charity organisation\, that has been assisting communities to restore and conserve Australia’s natural environment for more than 50 years. \nThis project received grant funding from the Australian Government through the Preparing Australian Communities local stream.

SUMMARY:Best practice Rabbit and Fox Control.
DESCRIPTION:Best practice Rabbit and Fox Control. Workshop and Field Demonstration \nRIGHT NOW IS THE KEY TIME FOR RABBIT CONTROL \nWhen the ground is dry and food becomes more scarce it is the best time to control rabbits. \nAt this workshop Aaron Stephens head of the bass coast Invasive Species Team will discuss how to run an multi pronged control program on your property giving you the best results. We will also cover the best options for fox control. \nEcologist Peter Gannon will discuss wildlife of South Gippsland that is impacted or threatened by these introduced pests. \nWe will then visit a nearby property for a practical demonstration of laying bait trails\, setting traps and using a fumigation device. For demonstration purposes no toxic chemicals will be used. \nLunch and refreshments provided \nRegister via this link \nQuestions to kirby@sgln.net.au \nThis project is supported by the Victorian Government through the Partnerships against Pests program
