DESCRIPTION:Ian and Jim have a wealth of knowledge about our local Gippsland flora and years of experience growing native plants. Thankfully they also have a passion for sharing this others. \nJoin us in the beautiful Leongatha Community Garden for this hands on workshop to learn how to propagate and grow plants for yourself to benefit our native environment. \nA variety of native seeds and seedlings the workshop will cover \n• Seed storage and pre-treatments. \n• Seed raising mixes \n• Sowing techniques for propagating trays and “direct seeding” into forestry tubes or cells. \n• Correct methods to “Prick Out” seedlings \n• Various mediums for growing plants from cuttings \n• Demonstration and a chance practice to process vegetative propagation using plant cuttings. \n• After care for cuttings/seedings \nYou will get to take home a tray of sewn seeds\, processed seedlings and cuttings \nEquipment is provided\, please BYO gloves. \nMorning tea is provided. DESCRIPTION:Join us for this interactive workshop on how to develop and maintain a Fire Wise garden. \nEcologist Kate Bennets (Fire\, Flood & Flora) will discuss how certain indigenous plant species can be used in gardens to help\nreduce fire risk around houses. DESCRIPTION:Last year a group of volunteers collected heaps of seeds from Morgan and Tom’s property down near Barry Beach as part of a grant titled “Returning the Bush”. \nWell\, those seeds have been germinated\, watered\, loved and tended and are now little plants ready to be planted into the previously farmed earth. Join us to visit a current participant’s farm\, and hear about their experience growing multispecies for the first time \nNew participants are now invited to join SGLN’s multispecies coaching program. For more information or to submit an expression of\ninterest to join the year 2 program click here. \nOver the last year\, current participants have:\n– Attended two training workshops in spring and autumn with specialist Jade Killoran\n– visited two local farms\n– developed personalised plans for trialling multispecies on their farms\n– compared successes and challenges with other farmers during online meetings and via a chat group\n– learnt how to grow multispecies pastures successfully!\nThe new program will follow the same format with year 2 participants joining in with the current group. \nAt this field day\, we will visit Louise’s farm for the farm walk.\nLouise hadn’t grown multispecies before and was really happy with her crops: “My cows and calves thrived on the summer multispecies crop. SUMMARY:Pedal & Plant - National Tree Day
DESCRIPTION:Our ‘Pedal and Plant’ returns in 2024 – promoting mental health by encouraging people to get outdoors and enjoy the Great Southern Rail Trail. This years event will be in Kardella\, just 5km outside of Korumburra\, where we’ll be planting 2000 trees. Participants are encouraged to park at Ruby or Korumburra and ride their bikes to the site. DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE FOR THE BPP INFO SESSION\nSouth Gippsland Landcare Network has developed a Biodiversity Protection Plan (BPP) for South Gippsland to guide a coordinated response for improving the natural environment in the region. We are seeking community and stakeholder feedback on the final draft. \nPlease join us and share your feedback on the BPP at a Community Information Session on Wednesday 5 June from 10am to 12noon at the Korumburra Community Centre. \nIn 2021\, South Gippsland Landcare Network identified the need for a BPP and brought together a broad cross-section of the community\, from individuals and small community groups to large organisations\, to discover what can and needs to be done to protect South Gippsland’s natural environment.  The BPP is an ambitious 10-year plan that identifies improvements needed to protect biodiversity in South Gippsland. \nAt the community information session we will describe the process we’ve used to develop the BPP\, its structure and how we intend for it to operate in the future. You will be able to review the actions contained in the BPP and discuss them one-on-one with our staff and volunteers. \nWe’d love to see you there and hear your feedback!  \nIf you can’t attend the Community Information Session\, there will be opportunities to provide your feedback online. A link to the draft BPP and online form will be emailed closer to the start of the feedback period which will run from Tuesday 28 May to Wednesday 12 June.\nWe are extremely excited to be presenting the BPP to the public and thank everyone who has participated in our workshops and surveys\, contributed data and reviewed drafts of the BPP.
