SUMMARY:Wetland Planting and Invertebrate Exploration
DESCRIPTION:Planting trees in soft\, wet areas is easy and fun! Wear your gumboots and come along to help us turn this boggy paddock area into habitat for frogs\, waterbirds and lots more. \nWe will also use our new vacuum tool\, the “critter collector\,” to see which pasture bugs are living around the wetland and in the nearby multispecies field. Learn a little about pasture bugs and how you can monitor them at home. \n  \nWhat to expect \n\nPlanting grasses and shrubs in a wet area\nDemonstration of how to use the “critter collector” to explore invertebrate life in the surrounding pasture\nUsing a microscope for a closer look\n\nLunch and refreshments provided. SUMMARY:A Look Inside a Changing Dairy System: Improving Soil\, Pasture & Productivity
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a field day to launch our South Gippsland Dairy Resilience Initiative. The day is hosted by Waratah Bay dairy farmers Stuart Tracy and family\, with multispecies specialist Jade Killoran. SUMMARY:Whole Farm Planning
DESCRIPTION:This FREE whole farm planning course is perfect for those new to farming or anyone wanting to elevate their knowledge in climate smart farming and how to improve their natural capital for a more sustainable future. \nEXPRESS YOUR INTEREST HERE!\n\nThis 7 session course will be made up of 7 in-person workshops run weekly starting Thursday October 15th. There will be 5 farm visits to see how experienced local farmers are managing their natural assets. The Victorian Farmers Federation will deliver a sixth practical session\, and the course will finish with a session completing participants’s whole farm plans. Experienced Landcare facilitator and sustainable agriculture consultant Peter Ronalds from Inspired AG Solutions will be at each workshop and will guide people to complete their whole farm plan.\n\nIn addition participants who would like to use digital mapping may attend a pre-course Google Earth mapping workshop held on Wednesday 7th October – book here\n\nParticipants will also receive: \n– A poster-side laminated aerial photograph of their property\, which they will use as a base to develop their whole farm plan.\n– A copy of the book ‘Stock and Waterways’\n– A copy of Natural Asset Farming\n– Morning tea and lunch at each session\n\n\nParticipating in this program will set you up for success by giving you the knowledge and tools to manage the natural assets on your farm in a changing climate. Neil brings a rare blend of global sustainability experience and grassroots local action. After a 35-year corporate career\, including leading international food waste initiatives with the UN\, FAO\, and WWF\, Neil made the move “from the desk to the dirt\,” returning home to South Gippsland. Today he’s President of the Leongatha Community Garden and Leongatha Community Market\, and a steering committee member of the Bass Coast South Gippsland Food System Alliance\, championing local food hubs and distribution networks to build a resilient\, self-reliant food economy for our region. \nWe’ll also be sharing details on our Biolinks Map project — including what it means for landholders\, how it was developed\, and how you can get involved or raise any questions. \nTickets are $15.00 per person and include canapés on arrival. Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the evening.
