SUMMARY:A Look Inside a Changing Dairy System: Improving Soil\, Pasture & Productivity
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a field day to launch our South Gippsland Dairy Resilience Initiative. The day is hosted by Waratah Bay dairy farmers Stuart Tracy and family\, with multispecies specialist Jade Killoran. It’s a shared field day between South Gippsland Landcare Network and GippsDairy. \nStuart will share his experience of reworking how the farm manages its soil\, pasture and inputs and seen major benefits. \nThe Tracy family run a 600-cow dairy is on 700 acres adjacent to Waratah Bay\, and have been farming there since 1980. \nThe day will start nearby at Sandy Point Community Centre\, where we’ll; \n\nhear from Stu Tracy about why they’ve made changes to their farming methods\nlearn about the results of the previous demo site on the farm\, and what the new demo site is looking at\nhear from Jade Killoran (Healthy Farming Systems) about the benefits of trialling multispecies pastures\n\n  \nFollowing a free lunch\, we’ll visit the farm – this is your chance to see it firsthand\, hear the story\, and ask the Tracys about their experiences. \n– Walk the paddocks and see the trial plots \n– Hear directly from Stuart and Angus about the journey\, the setbacks\, and what’s next \n– Hear from Jade Killoran on the science behind the results \n  \nThe day will also kick off the new Dairy Resilience project which dairy farmers are invited to join by submitting an EOI: https://forms.gle/qB92xFZYgLHTRgxFA \n  \nFor more info please email cassie@sgln.net.au\, or 0448 739 559. \n  \nLunch and refreshments provided. \nPlease notify us of any dietary requirements. \n  \nAs this is a joint event with GippsDairy\, participant info will be shared with GippsDairy. \nThe Dairy Resilience Project is supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program under the Natural Heritage Trust. SUMMARY:Whole Farm Planning
DESCRIPTION:This FREE whole farm planning course is perfect for those new to farming or anyone wanting to elevate their knowledge in climate smart farming and how to improve their natural capital for a more sustainable future. \nEOI FORM\n\nThis 7 session course will be made up of 7 in-person workshops run weekly starting Thursday October 15th. There will be 5 farm visits to see how experienced local farmers are managing their natural assets. The Victorian Farmers Federation will deliver a sixth practical session\, and the course will finish with a session completing participants’s whole farm plans. Experienced Landcare facilitator and sustainable agriculture consultant Peter Ronalds from Inspired AG Solutions will be at each workshop and will guide people to complete their whole farm plan.\n\nIn addition participants who would like to use digital mapping may attend a pre-course Google Earth mapping workshop held on Wednesday 7th October – book here\n\nParticipants will also receive: \n– A poster-side laminated aerial photograph of their property\, which they will use as a base to develop their whole farm plan.\n– A copy of the book ‘Stock and Waterways’\n– A copy of Natural Asset Farming\n– Morning tea and lunch at each session\n\n\nParticipating in this program will set you up for success by giving you the knowledge and tools to manage the natural assets on your farm in a changing climate. You’ll also meet other farmers who are in a similar stage to you.\n\nWhat: Climate Smart Whole Farm Planning Course over 7 weeks\, with 7 in-person sessions\, between approx. 10am-3pm \nWhen: Weekly on Thursdays.
