Neil brings a rare blend of global sustainability experience and grassroots local action. After a 35-year corporate career\, including leading international food waste initiatives with the UN\, FAO\, and WWF\, Neil made the move “from the desk to the dirt\,” returning home to South Gippsland. Today he’s President of the Leongatha Community Garden and Leongatha Community Market\, and a steering committee member of the Bass Coast South Gippsland Food System Alliance\, championing local food hubs and distribution networks to build a resilient\, self-reliant food economy for our region. \nWe’ll also be sharing details on our Biolinks Map project — including what it means for landholders\, how it was developed\, and how you can get involved or raise any questions. \nTickets are $15.00 per person and include canapés on arrival. Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase throughout the evening. The day is hosted by Waratah Bay dairy farmers Stuart Tracy and family\, with multispecies specialist Jade Killoran. This field day is the perfect opportunity to learn from past participants and understand how your property might benefit from getting involved. \nThis introductory session will be held at Peter Dykes’s farm. Peter has been growing multispecies since 2018\, and using other practices like mob grazing\, keeping soil covered and minimizing disturbance. He’s also making and using his own biofertilisers. DESCRIPTION:Want to better understand what’s happening in your pasture\, and how to make more informed pest management decisions? \nJoin South Gippsland Landcare Network for an informative field day with leading Australian Integrated Pest Management (IPM) specialist Dr Paul Horne from IPM Technologies. \nREGISTER HERE \nPaul will be talking about pest management with minimal reliance on insecticides – called Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM involves using naturally occurring biological control agents and management techniques to either encourage beneficial species or discourage pests. If insecticides are involved it is as a support tool and not the mainstay of pest management. Correct identification of both pest and beneficial species is important and this means being able to recognise all life stages from egg to adult. \nLearn more about some of the common pest insects that may be impacting your pasture\, such as slugs\, redlegged earth mite\, blue oat mite\, blackheaded cockchafer and lucerne flea. \nThe session is aimed at beef\, dairy and pasture-based farmers\, but is open to anyone who is interested. DESCRIPTION:Enhancing a dam is a simple way to improve productivity and increase biodiversity on your property. \nDuring this information session and farm walk you will learn about the key findings of 25 years of research from the Australian National University Sustainable Farms Project. Witness first hand the ‘before and after’ story at the properties of experienced beef farmers Paul and Sam Crock. \nPaul and Sam have spent more than 20 years making improvements to their Foster property and have recently begun the process again. They are dedicated to having a sustainable and environmentally sensitive operation. Learn how they have balanced improving their land for the environment while running a successful enterprise and prioritising stock health. \nWould you like native fish in your dam?
