SUMMARY:Revegetation of a Riparian Zone - Tarwin River Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join Nerrena Tarwin Valley Landcare for a river walk to see revegetation along a section of the East Tarwin branch of the Tarwin River. The one-to-two-hour walk will be guided by Matt Bowler from West Gippsland CMA. Arrive between 1.30 and 2 PM for a 2 PM start. \nAll welcome but please RSVP to Phil on 0428 642 371 to help with logistics. \nIn 2015 WGCMA commenced works to restore this section of the riverbank. At the time it was unfenced and thick with willow trees. The willows were poisoned and removed\, the riverbank was fenced and some 2\,000 natives were planted. The following year the billabong on the flats was also fenced and planted. \nCome and see the progress of this “good news” story. \nLocation: drive into the paddock through a road gate at approximately 145 Meeniyan-Nerrena rd\, Meeniyan. This is more or less opposite “Ballanard”\, a dairy farm at 140 Meeniyan-Nerrena rd. Join us at the river after driving/walking through the paddock. Look out for the sign. Unless it’s wet you will be able to park in the paddock. \nWhat to bring: sturdy shoes and suitable clothing. Most of the walking will be done in the paddock along the fence-line with the river bank\, which is flat and not overgrown. You may also wish to walk within the revegetation zone but this is obviously overgrown. \n  \nNote: this is not an SGLN event.
