SUMMARY:Dry season – preparing for Spring & Summer
DESCRIPTION:With low rainfall\, and minimal hay and silage stocks\, we need to ensure we have the knowledge and confidence to plan for and manage a potentially dry spring and summer. \nThis day will provide farmers with an opportunity to hear other farmers talk about their strategies in managing current conditions\, get the latest information\, and have a meal together. \nPresenters include; \nDale Grey (the Fast Break) – weather outlook\, and what we can expect in the next few months. \nFiona Baker – setting ourselves up for spring\, and summer\, water requirements\, and maximising our potential growth leading into our peak growing season \nJames Paulet – will talk about the 6 new soil moisture probes and weather stations located in West/South Gippsland and using this data to make informed decisions \nFarmers Chris Nixon (Beef & Dairy – Orbost) and Trevor Caithness (beef & cropping – Goon Nure) will talk about strategies they implemented to get through the 3 year drought in East Gippsland. What worked & what didn’t\, and what they would do better next time. \n  \nAfter lunch we will visit Ross Batten & Madeline & Bernard Buckley’s farm\, and discuss strategies they are implementing in preparation for a potentially dry spring and summer. \nMorning tea and lunch provided\, and registrations essential\, please register via clicking on this link. \nFor more information contact cassie@sgln.net.au or 0448 739 559. \nThis event is a combined event between SGLN’s Sustainable Ag Discussion Group with Pete Ronalds from Inspired Ag Solutions. \nThis event is supported by Agriculture Victoria’s Drought Support Package\, Food and Fibre Gippsland\, and the Australian Government through funding from the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program under the Natural Heritage Trust.
