SUMMARY:Developing a Fire Wise plan for your garden
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this interactive workshop on how to develop and maintain a Fire Wise garden. \nEcologist Kate Bennets (Fire\, Flood & Flora) will discuss how certain indigenous plant species can be used in gardens to help\nreduce fire risk around houses. She’ll also cover landscaping for bushfire and some great resources that are available. \nParticipants will have the chance to develop a plan for their own garden including:\n– your current garden and actions to reduce fire risk\n– an annual maintenance plan\n– Fire Wise indigenous species you would like to use and where \nWe’ll also visit the Fire Wise garden demonstration site that has recently been planted at Meeniyan. \nThis seminar is part of a larger Fire Wise Project\, which also included installing two demonstration sites at Meeniyan and Loch. The sites include a garden and a shelter belt demonstration\, to help create awareness and spread knowledge in the community about fire wise planting\, and provide ideas to guide others in fire wise planting for their own properties. \nThe Fire Wise Project is funded by the Australian Governments Preparing Australian Communities program in partnership with the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife (FNPW). FNPW is an environmental charity organisation\, that has been assisting communities to restore and conserve Australia’s natural environment for more than 50 years. \nThis project received grant funding from the Australian Government through the Preparing Australian Communities local stream. \nClick on this link to register  \nMore info kirby@sgln.net.au
